AMAZING stats show Giroud same as van Persie!!
Like many Arsenal fans, I cannot wait to see what the
best signing of the summer, Mesut Ozil, will bring to
the Gunners. The Germany international has a
multitude of talents, but the one that most players
and pundits seem to be focusing on is his ability to
create chances and provide goal assists.
That is clearly good news for the Arsenal strikers
Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski (when
fit) and even Nicklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo if
they get to play. With Giroud’s new confidence and
touch in front of goal, the French striker could well be
about to set the Premier League alight. The
Frenchman is currently tied at the top of the league
scoring charts on three league goals with Benteke
and Sturridge.
Any one who thinks it is too soon to forget Giroud’s
failings of last season may be very surprised to
discover that Giroud’s stats for last season, provided
by eplindex.com, were almost identical to those of
our former striker and captain Robin van Persie in the
2008/09 season.
In that season, the Dutchman was not hampered by
injury, in fact he played just over 100 minutes less
than Giroud, and he was about the same age. You
could even say that, because last season was
Giroud’s first in England, the Frenchman’s stats were
even more impressive.
Basically in the key areas of goals scored (11 each),
shots taken, shots on target, shooting accuracy and
chance conversion, they were almost identical.
Giroud has already shown a marked improvement
this season, just imagine what he will be able to
achieve with Ozil adding to the creativity of Cazorla,
Wilshere, Ramsey, Walcott and others….
