Arsenal to make Wholesale changes for Capital One Cup?

It looks like the Arsenal team that runs out on the pitch at West Brom on Wednesday, in our first Capital One Cup game of the season, is going to look very different to the starting XI we have been getting used to recently. To be honest, Arsene Wenger does not have a lot of choice in some areas, but he also has a tough decision to make on how much to risk. With Arsenal flying high at the top of the Premier League table, that competition becomes a big priority, but that does not mean we don’t care about the league cup. After eight years, Arsenal fans want a trophy, any trophy, sop it is a balancing act for Wenger. What may tip him over the edge, though, is the amount of injuries that we have had to cope with. The fit first team players could really do with a rest, especially with a difficult league game at Swansea this weekend followed by what could be a vital game against Napoli in the Champions League next week. So I expect to see Arteta and Vermaelen start after getting over their injuries, Monreal and Jenkinson could come in, Gnabry did well and may have to cover for Walcott again, depending on the England international’s stomach problem. Also, Bendtner and Viviano were on the bench yesterday and could get their first action against the Baggies. One player who will definitely be replaced is Jack Wilshere. The young midfielder has started to get his form back, but needed to come off against Stoke and just needs a bit more time to recover, although Arsenal will really start to see the best of him after that. Wenger said, “Jack played now five games. Normally I should have rested him today, but he did fight very hard and he was a bit exhausted in the end and that’s why I decided to take him off. Certainly I will not play Jack on Wednesday. “On Wednesday I will, of course, rotate the team. “I haven’t decided (if Bendtner will play) but he has a chance.” So theoretically Arsenal could line up like this: Viviano Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal Frimpong, Arteta, Ozil Gnabry, Bendtner, Miyaichi I don’t really expect Wenger to make quite as many changes as that, especially as we have an away trip to a Premier League side. West Brom have had a poor start, already losing at home to Swansea and Southampton, but they had a morale boosting win over Sunderland at the weekend. How much should Wenger focus on the upcoming games and gamble on Wednesday?
