Now Arsenal to make sure that no playersleave
It seems that the Arsenal manager has plans, and
they are not only plans for this season. There was an
almighty row among Arsenal fans this summer when
the media started talking about a new contract for
the Prof, mainly because a large section of Gonners
thought that Wenger was at least partly to blame for
the club’s miserly dealings in the transfer market,
and you have to admit they had good reason to
believe it.
The reports about a new contract for Wenger have
disappeared for now, but that does not seem to have
stopped the 63-year old from planning beyond this
season. The Mirror has reported that Arsenal are now
preparing new contracts for three key members of
the Gunners squad.
France international right back, and Arsenal’s new
4th choice centre back, Bacary Sagna is in the last
year of his current deal, and there were lots of
rumours suggesting that he might leave the club this
summer. However, if his problem was with the
ambition of the club, the signing of Mesut Ozil should
have convinced him that silverware could be around
the corner. The 30-year old is looking as good as ever
and the club want him to commit his future to
Arsenal.
Tomas Rosicky is one player who could be forgiven
for not wholeheartedly welcoming the news of Ozil
signing, because his position is the one most at risk
from the German. The offer of a new contract with
Arsenal, however, mat well convince the 32-year old
Czech international that he is still highly valued by
Wenger. A bit less pressure on Rosicky to play
regularly may also help him to prolong his career for
both club and country as well.
The third Gunner in line for a new contract is the BFG
himself. Per Mertesacker is clearly an integral part of
Wenger’s plans for Arsenal. The 28-year old German
defender gets more stick than the average forest
from Arsenal fans and the media, but with Koscielny
he has formed a formidable defensive pairing which
has conceded hardly anything since the Tottenham
defeat last season.
Arsenal got all the young British players to commit to
long term deals last season, and if we can do the
same with experienced and quality players, it will be
great for the morale and confidence of the team and
the fans. Now we just need to go and win something.
