Ozil: I would have come to Arsenal for free
Mesut Ozil’s deadline day move to Arsenal stole
much of the attention from Gareth Bale’s world
record switch to Real Madrid and the German star
has revealed that he would have swapped Madrid for
London for free after his talk with Arsene Wenger
which convinced him to complete the transfer.
Arsenal signed Ozil for a club record fee of
£42.5million and despite several Real Madrid stars
questioning their club’s strategy in selling the
German international, Ozil has revealed that he had
lost trust and respect in the Spanish capital.
Ozil said, “In some way, that conversation flicked a
switch in me and made me realise what I had lost at
Madrid: transparency, trust, respect. He [Wenger]
told me exactly how he saw me, how he wanted to
use me, what he expected of me. I cannot do
anything about the transfer fee. I would have come
for free, too.”
Ozil could make his Premier League debut this
weekend as Arsenal travel to the Stadium of Light to
face Sunderland and the 24-year old playmaker has
already revitalized the Gunners squad with several
first-team players praising his quality and the new
dimension he brings to the team.
