Wenger has dragged Arsenal into the big league beating PSG to Ozil

I think we can all agree that the big name signing of Mesut Ozil by Arsenal was a pretty big transfer coup. Some fans are over the moon about it, while some still feel that Arsene Wenger should also have strengthened in other areas, but there is no doubt that the Gunners have signed the sort of player that the Frenchman has been banging on about for ages. Ozil is a `top, top, top` player who will certainly add quality to the first team. Now whether the transfer problems Arsenal were having earlier in the summer were because of Wenger’s pickiness or financial issues, we may never know. It does seem that the boss had really set his sights on Ozil, though, and pulled out all the stops to get him. According to a report in The Mirror, Ozil even turned down a more lucrative offer from the French champions PSG after he had spoken to Wenger and been convinced that Arsenal were going places and he was going to be an integral part of it. The prof must have been very persuasive. Ozil said, “I am really looking forward to it because I have the faith of the coach. I had spoken to him at length on the telephone, he explained his plans and that he had faith in me – that is what I need as a player. “I am looking forward to the new challenge there. I have already heard that they have super fans, the city is great and the team is fantastic.” I have got a feeling that Arsenal fans also owe a big thank you to Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker who will have spoken to their team mate in the Germany team, and must have told him some good things. There are now three German internationals, two Spanish internationals (and one unlucky Arteta), five French internationals, five English internationals, a Czech, a Belgian, a Japanese and a Welsh international in the outfield squad, while all three keepers are also internationals. This would seem to back up Wenger’s insistence on the quality he has at his disposal and suggests that his assurances about Arsenal’s transfer targets was right all along. The fact that Arsenal have now smashed their transfer record and showed some real ambition will probably make it much easier for Wenger to sign more big name players in the future.
