Will Arsenal get the best from Cazorla on the wing?

There are many things that fans have to say about their club, particularly Arsenal fans. This ranges from questioning tactics, team selections and also (recently) transfer targets. While there is nothing wrong with that in my eyes, some fans tend to go overboard and end up talking as though they could manage a football team and be extremely successful with them. Using Santi Cazorla as a winger is among the tactics that often gets criticized. Many Arsenal fans seem love to criticize the fact that Arsene Wenger plays Santi Cazorla on the wings. Even I was a slight sceptic to the tactic when he first started. But I buy it now. And I think many Arsenal fans should too. His move to the wings coincided with our excellent run of form at the end of last season as well as pretty good results this season (bar Aston Villa). And I don’t believe in coincidences. Face it my fellow Arsenal fans, the tactic works. The idea is for Cazorla to drift into midfield and cause overloads in midfield and dominate possession. Iniesta does a similar job for Barcelona at times as well as for the Spain national team, as does David Silva for Manchester City. Isco did it too for Malaga. Those players arguably could be better in the middle. But why does nobody else say anything about it? In the current game, different teams require a certain cutting edge to them. Some variation to tip off their opposition. In our case, it is Cazorla on the wing drifting in to help recycle possession. It was the thing that won us the North London Derby mind you. If a pure winger such as Di Maria was fielded on the left flank, Dembele, Paulinho and Capoue would’ve bullied our much less physical midfield. We could’ve suffered another beating. Do you think AVB expected that to happen before kick-off? Probably not. Arsenal fans lack something. We all jump at every chance to criticize Wenger, only to be proven wrong at times. Another thing which people say is that sometimes Arsenal become predictable. Well, with Cazorla on the wings, one substitute is all we need to become unpredictable. Oxlade-Chamberlain or Podolski on, Cazorla off. Or vice versa depending on the opposition. Arsene has set himself up with great tactical options, and we all should realize that he has done so. He is showing ambition with this, building up from last season. Arsenal fans really need to learn to think before jumping to conclusions (myself included). We all seem to jump at every chance to criticize Wenger, only to be proven wrong at times. Aaron Ramsey on the wings is another one of them. By playing him on the wings, Ramsey has learnt how to play under more intense conditions. His return to the midfield made him a better player than he was before. Not to say I am completely pro-Wenger. I just want fans to never forget that while he may not have mastery over the transfer market, he certainly has mastery over everything that occurs on the pitch. Wenger knows his football, more than most, if not all, Arsenal fans. Me included. So think before saying something about Wenger, because he just might prove you wrong. Again.
