Arsenal line-up late swoop for unheralded 24year old South American
The Mirror reports that Arsenal manager Arsene
Wenger has identified Ecuadorian winger Jefferson
Montero as a last minute back up option for the
Gunners if reported big money moves for the Real
Madrid trio of Angel di Maria, Mesut Ozil and Karim
Benzema fail going into transfer deadline day.
Premier League newbies Cardiff City are also said to
be keen on the player but it seems like Wenger will
look to hijack the deal to bring the 24 year old to the
Emirates if need be. Montero had a brief spell with
Villarreal and played along side Arsenal star Santi
Cazorla before moving on loan to Levante and Real
Betis.
The winger has already earned 27 caps for the
Ecuador national team and is seen as a versatile
forward capable of playing on the wings and as a
centre forward.
One would imagine that Montero would be only a
back up option though as Wenger plots moves for
much bigger fish including Chelsea star Juan Mata
and Schalke’s 19 year old prodigy Julian Draxler.
You never say never with Arsenal though as they
have been known unearth low-key signings out of the
blue and Montero may well be one of them by the
end of the window on Monday night.
It is believed that Montero has spoken to national
teammate Antonio Valencia about a possible move to
the Premier League and has got the green signal
from the Manchester United star.
