Arsenal now believe they CAN win title says Ox
The transfer deadline day capture of Mesut Ozil was
important to Arsenal for various reasons. Forget for a
minute about the arguments over whether Arsene
Wenger should have signed more players in different
areas, that one transfer has lifted a lot of the tension
from the club.
Wenger’s own position is now more secure, and the
Arsenal fans are fully back on side and feeling
optimistic, which will transfer itself on to the players
on match days. The transfer of the Germany
international has also given the whole squad a big
lift, and we know just how important good morale
and confidence are to the performance of a team.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been talking about
this. Unfortunately, the England international picked
up an injury on the first day of the season, but he has
been hugely impressed by the spirit in the camp
since that opening day defeat. Following on from the
way Arsenal finished last season, and with new
players and last year’s now established in the side,
the 20-year old is bullish about Arsenal ending the
trophy drought and mounting a serious challenge for
the Premier League title.
He said, “That team spirit, you can’t buy it. That,
along with our manager and the signings, I’m full of
optimism that this season will be a good one.
“We think we can win the title. Just like we believe
we can win every competition we’re in. If you don’t
believe that, you don’t deserve to be at Arsenal.
“In the end, we and the fans have got what we want,
a really good addition.
“Since I’ve been there, this is the strongest I’ve felt.
Especially because quality players haven’t left.
“That’s really important. And players like Santi have
got another year’s experience.”
I don’t think that we should underestimate just how
much all this can help Arsenal this season, especially
when everybody else has got big changes to cope
with. Chelsea, Man City and United and Everton all
with new managers and some changes in playing
staff, while Liverpool and Spurs have got lots of new
faces to integrate.
The major problem that Arsenal have, and we are
already suffering to some extent, is the injuries. A
few more in key positions could cause the Gunners a
real crisis. But if the Ox is feeling positive, who am I
to be negative? We have had our bad luck now, and
this Arsenal team has a great chance.
The next six Premier League games are against
Sunderland, Stoke, Swansea, West Brom, Norwich
and Crystal Palace, before Liverpool and Man United
at the start of November. If we come through that
still in touch with the top of the table and the squad
looking replenished, we will be well on course. Come
On You Gunners!!!!
