Arsenal striker Giroud targets Premier League Golden Boot
Olivier Giroud hopes to win the Premier League
Golden Boot this season, the Daily Mirror has
reported, as the Arsenal striker insists the injury he
appeared to pick up in the Gunners’ win over
Sunderland is not a serious blow.
Giroud has thus far scored in all four league games
played, netting his side’s only goal in the 3-1 defeat
to Aston Villa to start the season, the away win by
the same score at Fulham, the only goal of the game
against local rivals Tottenham Hotspur and the
opening goal of the weekend win at Sunderland, from
Mesut Ozil’s assist.
With a goal against Fenerbahce in the Champions
League, Giroud has found the net five times in six
games, having scored 17 time last season, his debut
campaign at the Emirates Stadium.
And Giroud hopes to maintain his prolific early
season form, believing that having started the
season so well he is in with a shout of coming out on
top of the individual scoring chart. “With this team I
can score many goals,” he said. “Can I finish the
league’s top scorer? I must have a chance.”
Giroud had to be withdrawn in the final minutes
against Sunderland after appearing to pick up an
ankle injury, creating doubt over his fitness to play
Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday.
But the France international is sure he will be
available to play the Ligue 1 side. “I twisted my ankle
but, fortunately, it is nothing major. Marseille? Yes, I
am OK, I will be fine,” he added.
