Arsenal to flop in Champions League says Hansen
It appears that some football pundits just cannot
help themselves from their Arsenal bashing. Jamie
Redknapp usually likes to predict Arsenal dropping
out of the Premier League top four at the expense of
one of his former clubs, Tottenham or Liverpool. It
has never happened yet, but maybe he is working on
the law of averages and thinking it is bound to
happen sooner or later.
Yesterday it was the turn of another former Liverpool
man, and Match of the Day pundit, Alan Hansen who
had the knives out for Arsene Wenger and his
Arsenal players. Going against all recent history and
ignoring the Gunners’ signing of Mesut Ozil and a
great start to the season, Hansen has predicted
doom and disaster in the Champions League group
stage as reported by the Express.
Hansen said, “Having been drawn in the hardest
group of all, Arsene Wenger’s decision to sign Ozil
rather than a commanding defender and leader could
see Arsenal fall at the first hurdle.
“Their counter-attacking approach works for them
more often than not in the Premier League, but the
likes of Borussia Dortmund and Napoli are capable of
exposing their inability to defend properly without
the ball.
“Arsenal have not changed. They will continue to
have good runs, but then see it all fall apart with a
catastrophic defeat, which is why I fear for them in
this group.”
Well thanks for that hatchet job, Alan. At least he
realises that Arsenal have got the hardest group, but
don’t forget that Arsenal are the top seeded team in
it. It won’t be easy, but Arsenal are looking good so
far and will soon have players back from injury. Also,
Hansen seems to have forgotten that Arsenal hasd
the second best defence in the Premier League last
season.
Just to rub it in, Hansen thinks that all the other
English teams will breeze through their groups,
despite Man City being in a shambles, having failed
for the last two years and having the holders Bayern
Munich in their group. It sounds to me like he wants
Arsenal to fail. Well we are just going to have to
disappoint him, aren’t we?
