Can Gnabry play against Swansea? Do Arsenal have an option?
After Arsene Wenger rested most of his first choice
Arsenal players for the league cup trip to West Brom,
the Gunners should be able to field a well rested first
team for the visit to the Liberty Stadium to face
Swansea City on Saturday. This is great news for a
squad depleted by injury, but there are a couple of
things still concerning me.
Firstly, our Big F**king German Per Mertesacker
played the whole 120 minutes and was on the end of
a heavy challenge. So I assume that he will be rested
against Swansea, because we can’t risk him picking
up an injury because his body has not recovered
properly. With Sagna and Vermaelen, this is not too
much of a problem, but it does break up the
partnership, and Swansea could cause us problems
at the back.
The other worry is Serge Gnabry. The young German
had a great league debut against Stoke, but was not
as effective at West Brom, but that is not what’s
worrying me. It’s the fact that he played 120 minutes
on the back of that debut. Is he match fit enough to
play a third game in a six days? He is young, but
hasn’t been playing regularly so is not used to it.
Hopefully this will not be a problem, because I am
struggling to think of a decent alternative. Gnabry is
already covering for injuries, so who covers for him?
Miyaichi? Akpom? Eisfeld? I guess we will have to
wait and see…
