Could these be the next 2 German internationals at Arsenal?
For the last few years, there has been a lot of talk in
the football world about Germany, and the Arsenal
manager certainly seems to have taken it on board.
Arsene Wenger has just made Mesut Ozil the third
German international player at the club, alongside
Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker, and there could
soon be more on the way.
Arsenal already have the young German starlets,
Serge Gnabry, Thomas Eisfeld, Gedion Zelalem and
Leander Siemann, but a ccording to a report in The
Mirror, Wenger is not prepared to wait for them to
mature, but is planning a double raid on the
Bundesliga, possibly in January. The two players in
question are 22-year old Ilkay Gundogan from
Borussia Dortmund and 24-year old Lars Bender from
Bayer Leverkusen.
Both of these midfielders are highly rated, but would
be difficult to get from their respective clubs.
Gundogan, like Ozil, is from Gelsenkirchen and is of
Turkish descent. He is a creative player, but more of
a deep lying playmaker, the kind of role that Arteta
currently provides. Bender, on the other hand, is
better known for his defensive qualities and tireless
work rate in the middle.
The paper also claims that Wenger could be
interested in Marco Reus and Julian Draxler, who are
more attacking players. It certainly seems that
Arsenal could be shopping a lot more in Germany in
future.
