Sagna and Mert goals show Arsenal are better all over

Arsenal were victorious today in their attempt to regain the league’s top spot, with a 3-1 win over Stoke City. It was not only the Gunners’ aim to grab all three points but such a feat would see us return to the summit and that’s exactly what we did. Arsenal have been out to prove the media wrong this season, especially Wenger. The signing of Mesut Ozil certainly helped however that wouldn’t have meant anything had the team failed to perform to the highest ability. But no losses aside from the opening day defeat against Aston Villa at the Emirates has seen Arsenal reach the top of the table on 12 points after 5 games. Arsenal’s best performances in the past have been down to just a few individuals however now we have a real team performance boost with several key players all showing why they are top quality players. Despite only playing three games for the club, Mesut Ozil has already managed to pick up a whole host of assists, including three in today’s game. But Ozil aside, three players that have been out to prove the doubters wrong are Mertesacker, Ramsey and Sagna. Mertesacker and Ramsey finally managed to prove their worth to this Arsenal team with some top quality performances at the end of last season. However go back a few months beforehand and there were plenty of fans making it clear that they firmly believed neither player deserved to pull on the Arsenal shirt. Bacary Sagna was another one of those players that had doubts over their future with Arsenal, with constant speculation surrounding the Frenchman this summer with a move away from the club. This was after a terribly inconsistent season beforehand, which made people doubt whether he still had the quality to be an Arsenal player. Sagna however stuck with the Gunners and improved dramatically and then today again proved why he deserves a place in this Arsenal side. The fact that everyone in the Arsenal side is looking confident and playing well can only be good news, and the other squad members will lnow they have to work really hard to force their way in.
