The 3 reasons for Gibbs’ brilliant form for Arsenal
It was not very long ago that the Arsenal and
England full back Kieran Gibbs was getting himself a
reputation as an injury prone player, having missed
significant periods ever since he first broke his foot at
the end of 2009. However, apart from a small thigh
problem last season, he has quietly become a very
reliable first team player for the Gunners.
The 23-year old has started every one of Arsenal’s
games so far this season, in both the Premier League
and Champions League. His performances have been
as good as we have ever seen from him, including a
goal and three assists in Europe, and the young left
back has revealed a couple of reasons behind his
resurgence, progress and consistency, and it is
primarily based on his ability to stay injury free, as
reported by The Mail.
Gibbs said, “Since my thigh strain at the end of last
year, I met someone new who has taken a good look
at me physically, and I owe him credit at the minute
because he has kept me fir for the last eight or ten
months. I have to thank him for that.
“from pure frustration of getting different injuries. I
had someone look at me and the person told me that
ever since I broke my foot, which changed me a bit.
“Before that I never really had any injury problems.
Ever since then was when they came about.
“Now I feel like I am getting stronger and can cope
with the amount of games.”
This is fantastic news for Gibbs and Arsenal, but the
defender also has something else on his mind, and
that is a seat on the plane with the England squad for
the world cup in Brazil next summer. This is not
going to be easy, with Ashley Cole and Leighton
Baines to get past, but it means that Gibbs is
pushing himself as hard as possible to keep
progressing and putting in top draw performances.
He said, “It is a challenge to compete against two
world-class left backs, both at the top of their games.
“I just have to see it as a challenge and stay fit and
concentrate on the (Arsenal) team and give myself
the best chance.”
He is doing brilliantly at the minute for Arsenal,
where strong competition from the Spanish
international Nacho Monreal is the third reason for
his form this season. Gibbs knows that there is an
extremely talented player ready to step in if he drops
his standards, while Arsenal have strength in depth
for the position, with Vermaelen also able to play
there. If only we could say the same for every
position, although that mat come.
