Is dropping Koscielny for Vermaelen a good idea? by ATB.
There were some suggestions after the Marseille
game from fans that Arsenal should drop Laurent
Koscielny to re-introduce Thomas Vermaelen back to
the Arsenal set up. And upon hearing those thoughts
from fellow Arsenal fans, everything was put into
perspective, are they out of their mind?
Now everyone is entitled to an opinion, I for one have
got some very controversial views on a few players at
Arsenal, which some fans agree with and others
don't, but I'm fairly certain in saying I know for a fact
that most fans will agree on this point that dropping
Koscielny for Vermaelen would be a bad idea.
Although Koscielny has made a few errors in recent
games and over the course of the new season so far,
has he made any more wrong decisions then any of
our other defenders? For me, Koscielny is still the
best centre back at the club and his performances
have done nothing but improve over the time he has
been with the Gunners. To drop him now could spoil
all that.
In fact as I'm sure we are all aware, Koscielny was
linked with both Bayern Munich and Barcelona this
summer, with the two European giants lining up a
new defender. Koscielny supposedly rejected the
chance to join either, although I struggle to think
Arsenal would have sanctioned a deal for him
anyway. The interest from these two clubs surely
goes to show that he is a top quality player and the
thought of dropping him is absolutely ludicrous.
I'll admit in saying that I would love to see Vermaelen
return to the starting line up if he manages to find
his form that made him such a fantastic defender
before, however I just don't see how that opportunity
is going to arise for the club captain, with both Per
Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny himself proving to
be very effective in the centre of defence. What do
you think Gooners?
