A bit of an injury update for you today ahead of our
crucial clash with Napoli tomorrow and according to
reports, Jack Wilshere could miss the game with an
ankle knock but Tomas Rosicky is expected to be
recalled.
Goal are claiming that Wilshere picked up the
problem during our win at Swansea on Saturday and
while it's not believed to be serious and isn't linked
with his previous ankle injuries, it could be enough to
see him left out against the Italians.
I watched the game at the weekend and could see no
sign that Jack was carrying any sort of knock but
sometimes these things flare up after the game, so
we'll have to see if Arsene gives us any update at his
pre-match press conference.
The good news is that Rosicky looks set to be recalled
after returning to full training on Sunday. The Czech
midfielder hasn't featured since injuring his thigh
while away on international duty earlier this month
but he will train with the rest of the first team today
and Wenger could start him if he proves his fitness.
The likelihood will be that if Jack isn't 100% fit, then
Rosicky will replace him on the left wing against
Napoli tomorrow.
Goal also gave an update on Cazorla's situation and
they claim that the playmaker is receiving intensive
treatment and is no longer wearing a protective boot
to support his ankle injury, but Wenger is reluctant
to rush him back too soon.
The Spaniard could return to training later this week
and is keen to get back to action against West Brom
this weekend but the boss is expected to make him
wait until after the international break.
Perhaps Arsene is keen to hold him back to ensure
he's not called up by Spain for their upcoming World
Cup qualifying double header? If Santi were to play
for us on Sunday then there's a chance he might be
called up by his country. But if we leave him out then
Wenger can insist he's still not fit and Cazorla will get
a nice two week break.
