AKB or AOB? Arsenal fans should still stick together!
AOB and AKB groups unite- you are both correct- by
Gunner Gyz
The spectacular signing of a top top top player like
Mesut Ozil should unite Arsenal fans finally – right?
One would think so, but not so much. It has become
apparent in recent years that there are 2 factions of
supporters who both claim to support the club, but
they have diametrically opposed views on how to
best proceed. Let me briefly outline the stances:
(Arsene Knows Best) AKBs believe Wenger has
delivered UCL football for countless seasons, he has
maintained quality in spite of a drop off in spending,
he has moved us into a state of the art facility which
in time will increase our revenue and allow us
financial freedom to buy top players. Wenger has
developed and nurtured talent as well as brought in
top young prospects to ensure we organically build a
strong team; he has shown belief in our lads and
brought them through tough times to the point
where our coal is now diamond IE Aaron Ramsey.
When it was not possible to match the ambitions of
the players, he has allowed them to leave and follow
dreams whilst ensuring our club receive the best
possible price when moving on the few that lost faith.
He has bought solid additions on a shoestring budget
and allowed us to tread water until we have the
energy to swim. Without AW, we would have slipped
away as Liverpool have and require years of work and
investment to even dream of a top 4 finish. Running
a race is not easy, competing in said race is harder,
doing so against Usain Bolt with no gear or training
and still competing means you’ve worked miracles.
(Arsene Out Brigade) AOBs believe Wenger has sold
our squad of world class invincibles and young stars
and not adequately replaced them. When we do have
quality in the ranks, it is misused as we often see our
best players playing out of position a la Arshavin. Our
tactics have shown we lack the steel required for
Premier league standard, our best players are sold
and desperate to be sold as they seek trophies that
we are not competing for. Worse yet, our manager
pretends we are challenging for silverware and
seems to be delusional about our chances.
Wenger seemingly sticks with players he prefers
regardless of form. He treats our deadwood as class
new signings when they return. We have just
alleviated ourselves of many of Wenger’s pathetic
buys but some rot is so bad, we can’t dispose of it-
thank you Mr. Best Striker in the World Bendtner. We
moved to a new stadium and take in more match day
revenue than ever but we spend like we are
minnows, and when we finally do buy, we pay over
the odds for a position we don’t need filled, thus
leaving our defence in shambles.
As you can see, valid points on both sides- neither
argument is 100% true, nor is either argument really
important. What’s done is done and Arsenal must
now get on with business of playing football. We
cannot do much to affect what decisions are taken
and we are not privy to all of the factors involved, so
what can we do?
Support your club and whoever is on the pitch
wearing our strip. Voice concerns but don’t berate
your fellow Gooners to denigrate Stan or Ivan or even
Arsene. Watch football, love football, always hope
and expect a win, and whether you get the win or
not, no matter who’s fault it is…..be classy and be a
Gunner!
