Even Wenger doesn’t know his best Arsenal midfield
Before transfer deadline day, all Arsenal fans alike
recognised that our squad was desperately thin both
in terms of quality as well as numbers. After transfer
deadline day, Arsenal fans were left a lot happier
with the news we had signed Mesut Ozil, however
two additions still hasn’t really added lots to our
squad depth as a whole.
What it has done however is that we now find
ourselves deployed with too many players for one or
two positions and then literally no players for others.
An example of this is the fact that by signing Mesut
Ozil, Arsene Wenger now has a real headache in
midfield. Arsenal’s best area on the pitch before
Ozil’s signature was easily the midfield and now that
the 24 year old German international has linked up
with the Gunners it’s added more quality to the
team. As stupid as this question may seem, do
Arsenal now have a problem of having too much
talent in midfield?
In terms of a squad then I’d say no because we only
have a few real talented players in midfield however
in terms of what three to select in our midfield trio,
suddenly things become a little more complicated.
Assuming Ozil will always get into the team when
available, he will be deployed as a centre attacking
mid and with Cazorla out wide, this leaves us with
Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky and Arteta as the main
midfielders (because Diaby and Frimpong are
extremely unlikely to play for the club for different
respective reasons.) So with The players mentioned,
that’s four very good players all who deserve a place
in the Arsenal team.
Rosicky is predominantly very attacking, so I can only
assume that he will be used as back up to Ozil and so
I think he’s more likely than not to feature on the
bench. Wilshere seems to be almost guaranteed a
starting spot, although I think he will have to battle it
out with Ramsey and Arteta, one of which will of
course be on the bench. In terms of current
standards, I would definitely select Ramsey and
Wilshere however it seems difficult not to select
Arteta, because he is such an important player to our
game and his highly valued contribution often goes
unnoticed.
I guess it’s just a matter of time until Wenger is
forced into this decision and when it comes along I
can assure you that it won’t be easy for Le Professor!
It may take some experimenting before the boss
really knows his best system, and that may depend
on who and where Arsenal are playing. What do you
think Gooners?
