Koscielny reveals why he is so happy at Arsenal

Laurent Koscielny seems to have cemented himself a place in the Arsenal first team, but the 27-year old France international defender is taking nothing for granted, especially with club captain Thomas Vermaelen back in training and close to full fitness. Moving to Arsenal has also kick started his international career. Kos now has 14 international caps and seems to be a regular first choice. He has just played the whole 90 minutes of both of France’s World Cup qualifiers, and took time out to tell the French media about how comfortable and secure he is with the Gunners, also praising the influence that Arsene Wenger has had on his form and his career, as reported by Sky Sports. Koscielny told L’Equipe, “Playing a lot of big matches in the Premier League allows you to gain experience. “After a mistake you just have to start again. “My character is calm and serene, so that helps on the pitch. The coaches trust also helps as it allows you to liberate yourself and not worry about dropping to the bench if you make a mistake. “For some months I’ve felt better on several levels. In England you have to be more aggressive in all levels: speed, control, passing, challenges in the air, anticipation – and I’ve got more physical presence. “But you will never hear me saying I am unquestionable in the starting XI, either for my club or the national team.” One of the things he is trying to work on is being more vocal and communicative, and he realises this is vital to cutting out defensive errors and getting the best out of the whole team. If he can improve on this, and keep his useful habit of scoring important goals, he could become an Arsenal legend. It seems like Koscielny has found the perfect balance between confidence in his own ability and place in the team, without letting any complacency creep in to his mind. In a similar way to the Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny. Hopefully Vermaelen can get that happy medium as well. The Belgian centre back will be desperate to get back into the team. If he does, you would think it would be at the expense of Koscielny, so the captain has got a tough job on his hands.
