Should Arsenal try for Llorente in January?
There were rumours linking Arsenal with a wide
variety of strikers this summer, while there was
public confirmation from Liverpool that Arsene
Wenger had launched an audacious £40 million bid
for the Uruguayan international forward Luis Suarez.
Buy when the window slammed shut on September
2nd, the only striker the Gunners had signed was the
20-year old Yaya Sanogo from Auxerre in the French
2nd division.
So another striker would seem to be the main priority
for Wenger in January. The boss has spoken before
about not really liking the January window, but he
may have to put that aside and do some business
this time. Olivier Giroud is scoring goals for fun, and
Lukas Podolski had smashed two before pulling his
hamstring, but Arsenal could certainly do with
another.
One name that was previously linked with Arsenal
has popped up again, and a report in the Mirror
claims that he could be available in January.
Fernando Llorente joined Juventus on a free this
summer, but he has made just one substitute
appearance so far. He watched the Italian champions
from the bench again on Saturday, and the report
also claims that he is struggling to settle in Italy.
The 6ft 5in striker is good with his feet as well as in
the air, and could be seen as the perfect cover for
Giroud, and he is desperate to play to force his way
back into the Spain national side. He only lost his
place when he was dropped by former club Bilbao
after refusing to sign a new contract. Before that he
was becoming a regular and scored seven goal in his
first 13 games. He is definitely worth keeping an eye
on. What do you think Gooners?
