Wenger hints that Arsenal will keep making BIG transfers
I was one of the many Arsenal fans that was getting
very close to blowing my top at times during the
summer. The Gunners were already well behind a
large number of Premier League clubs when it came
to the record transfer fee paid, and once the deals for
Higuain and Suarez were dead in the water, it looked
as if that would stay the same.
When Tottenham broke their club record for the third
time in a matter of weeks, I could have quite
cheerfully put a cricket bat through my television
screen, but us Arsenal fans are used to pain, and
having to be patient, and were certainly rewarded
with the marquee signing of the summer, Mesut Ozil.
We all hope that this deal is the first of many big
transfers, as Arsenal throw off the financial shackles
and get back to where we belong, at the top. Wenger
has been speaking about the club’s financial
situation and he sounds like a man who is planning
to make many more similar signings in the future.
Wenger said, “As you know as well, what is very
important for us is to find world-class players. There
are not plenty around.
“We had to go through some years when I signed a
long term contract where we had some restricted
financial potential. And the target was to stay in the
Champions League in this period and we managed to
do it. We are now in a strong position financially.”
So the club has got plenty of money to spend and will
have even more from now on, while Wenger is
determined to bring in world class players. Hmmm,
interesting. I think we are all going to enjoy transfer
windows a lot more from now on.
