West Brom 1 - Arsenal 1 (2-3 on pens): Nacho Monreal is spot on

ARSENAL clinched a Capital One Cup fourthround clash with Chelsea after a dramatic penalty shoot-out. Arsene Wenger's men looked to be going out until West Brom completely let them off the hook with a last-gasp spot-kick blow out. Albion had the initiative after scoring their first three from the spot and seeing Serge Gnabry miss Arsenal's second. Missed You could sense the anticipation among the home fans when, suddenly, it all collapsed around them. Craig Dawson, who had been a star performer, missed the fourth kick and when Morgan Amalfitano did the same with the last, the Gunners were handed the chance to win. Up stepped Nacho Monreal - one of nine changes from the side which beat Stoke - and he showed a cool head to slot home his kick and clinch a home tie with London rivals Chelsea. Delighted Wenger knew his men had been taken to the edge but was just grateful to get things done and dusted. He said: "The young players will benefit. It's good for their development because it is good to win when you think you are dead. "You have to dig deep and you are then rewarded which is a big lesson for young players. "They showed they can play in the style we want them to. They coped really well. Chelsea will be interesting. They have a large squad so we know they will put out a strong side." West Brom really should have wrapped up victory in extra-time when they were guilty of some glaring misses and a big dose of bad luck. Youngster Thomas Eisfeld opened the scoring for Arsenal [PA] “The young players will benefit. It's good for their development because it is good to win when you think you are dead.” Arsene Wenger Amalfitano had seen his rocket shot smash against the face of the crossbar and Marcus Rosenberg should have done better when he allowed Per Mertesacker to block his close-range shot. Hailed Arsenal would point to a good opportunity which escaped them in the first half of extra-time when Nicklas Bendtner charged through on goal only to be denied by a superb tackle from Dawson. In fairness, either side could have won it in a see-saw game which had been hailed as the return of Arsenal's prodigal son Bendtner. This was his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt in over two years and with his contract running out in the summer, it's his last chance to really fulfil the potential that most - especially himself - think he possesses. He did set up Arsenal's goal with a deft pass to Thomas Eisfeld which saw the young German grab the lead with a drilled shot in the 61st minute. Wenger was pleased with what he saw from the colourful Danish international, saying: "Overall he had a good game for a guy who has not played for some time. "He has lots of ability and I think, you know, confidence is one thing he isn't short of!" West Brom hauled themselves level in the 71st minute when Burundi wonderboy Saido Berahino headed home from eight yards. But there was no happy ending this time as the Londoners travelled home with victory in their pocket.
