Owen's claim to knock Arsenal down!Just when all the news surrounding Arsenal seems to
be either positive or optimistic, there is always part
of the media that always has to go and try to ruin it
for the club. As Arsenal fans, we haven't had our
moment in the spotlight for all the right reasons for
quite a while, however as soon as that time comes
around again, there are some people who are
determined to fight against it and this time around
the character is former England international striker
Michael Owen.
Michael Owen retired from professional football at
the end of last season, finally hanging up his boots
after what was a very successful career for the
striker, despite his injury problems. Before I tear him
a new one, I would like to say that he was really
unlucky not to be able to cement his place as
possibly England's best ever striker, and his goal
against Argentina at the world cup will never fail to
put a smile on my face. But we are talking Arsenal,
and Owen has made himself a whole lot of enemies
in the Goonerverse.
Upon his retirement, Owen went straight into the
media side of the game and soon become known as
one of the country's rising football critics. Known for
his controversial side, Owen has certainly caught the
eyes and ears of the footballing fans with his latest
comments.
Owen told the media in his column for the Sport
section in the Daily Telegraph, that Arsenal don't look
like a top four club. He went on further to then
suggest that none of the Arsenal side, apart from
Ozil, would get into any of the other 'top clubs' in
England.
I heavily disagree with Owen's suggestion that the
likes of Cazorla, Wilshere, Giroud, Koscielny and even
now Ramsey, wouldn't get into the other top four
clubs in England, and my reasoning for this is simple.
Why else would we be top of the league at this
current moment, if it wasn't for these players?
Koscielny was scouted by both Bayern and Barcelona
in the summer, that means he must be top class.
Giroud is currently the league's highest striking goal
scorer and is proving Wenger right and everybody
else wrong with his top quality. Ozil and Cazorla are
both fantastic playmakers and are some of the
world's best. Just ask the struggling Real Madrid
players if you don't believe me. (HaHaHaHaHa Perez
you Donut). Whilst Ramsey and Wilshere are proving
to be fantastic young talents to enlighten this league.
So why should we thank him? Simple. If Arsene
Wenger and his players needed any extra motivation
this weekend, Owen's foolish words would have
provided them. How much sweeter is success when
people have been telling you that you have no hope?
Wenger definitely seems to love proving his doubters
wrong.
