Two quick pieces of team news for you, with updates
on injuries to Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky, who
both featured in the 1-1 draw with West Brom at
the weekend. We will start with Ramsey, who looked
to be struggling slightly on Sunday and was
eventually forced off early into the second half with
what appeared to be a small injury. However, Arsene
Wenger has said during that a post-match interview
that Ramsey is ok. He was just taken off as a
precaution. Ramsey has been included in the Wales
squad to play their final two World Cup qualifiers
against Macedonia and Belgium this week, so it
appears he is fine.
"He is alright. He had a kick. I just saw that he
wasn't completely running free, so I took him
out".
Ramsey's replacement in the West Brom game,
Rosicky, however, does seem to have picked up some
sort of injury. Czech Republic interim coach Josef
Pesice has confirmed on the FIFA official website that
Rosicky has been excused from this week's World
Cup 2014 qualifiers against Malta and Bulgaria at the
request of Arsenal for "health reasons".
"Arsenal have asked us to excuse Rosicky for
health reasons. We have called up Borek Dockal."
National team director Vladimir Smicer then gave a
slightly fuller explanation:
"Tomas wasn't completely fit after the game
[against West Brom]. Arsene Wenger got in touch
with me and we agreed not to take Tomas to the
qualifiers."
Rumours on Twitter suggest that Rosicky has
suffered a recurrence of the calf injury that he picked
up last time he was away on international duty. This
is a big blow as he has only just got back to full
fitness, starting against Napoli last week. The good
news is that we should have Santi Cazorla back
shortly after the 2-week international break.
