I am not going to be too hard on the Arsenal and
South Korea striker Park Chu-Young, but it is safe to
say that his time with the Gunners has been a big
disappointment for all sides. Many expected him to
be part of the mass clear out from the Emirates this
summer, but he is still with the club.
However, his chances of adding to his six minutes of
Premier League football were not looking great, and
he is now going out on loan to the Championship side
Wigan, who were relegated this summer. It must
surely be his last chance to find himself and prove to
Arsene Wenger that he could offer something to
Arsenal. The new Wigan boss Owen Coyle has done
well with Arsenal loanees in the past and he needs
forward players, so Park will get his chance to
impress.
At 28-years old, Park is a bit long in the tooth for all
this, but Wenger will not completely give up on him
and if he shows what he can do, who knows? It has
been a strange Arsenal career right from the start,
when Wenger signed him at the end of the 2011
transfer window. He was part of the `panic buying`
that came after the terrible 8-2 at Old Trafford, along
with Andre Santos, Mertesacker, Arteta and Eisfeld.
Also, he is believed to have abandoned a medical
with Lille to join us.
Not many people ever expected to see Bendtner in
an Atsenal shirt again, but there he was at the end of
the West Brom game. So is there any chance he can
join Mertesacker, Eisfeld and Arteta from that 2011
group, or is he doomed to do a Santos?
