You may think that Arsenal do not really need any more creative and attacking midfielders, but that's what people said when we signed Santi Cazorla, and again this summer when we smashed the club transfer record for Mesut Ozil. So the talented young German midfielder Julian Draxler has often been linked with Arsenal, but his current club insists we can forget it. 20-year old Draxler has been in the youth system at the Bundesliga club Schalke since 2001, and made his league debut in 2011. He has established himself as one of the club's best players as well as being one of the hottest young players in the world. Anyone who has seen his performances this season will realise why he is the subject of interest from some of Europe's top clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League. However, Draxler signed a new contract at the end of last season, and has shown no inclination of wanting to move to a bigger club. He seems happy to continue his excellent progress with Schalke, and the club's general manager Horst Heldt has insisted that the club will not listen to any offers, according to Talksport. He said, "We will retain Draxler. "There will be no dramas this winter." Usually when you hear this sort of thing, you take it with a pinch of salt, but as I say, Draxler himself seems to have his head screwed on and seems to want to just keep working on his football where he is. I am sure that Arsene Wenger will be keeping a watchful eye on him though.
