Arsenal Debate – Offer Sagna BIG money or sign someone?

It is being reported that Arsenal look set to lose one
of the longest serving and most reliable players at
the club net summer. The French international right
back Bacary Sagna is back with a bang this season
after an inconsistent season last time, when he was
taking some time to recover from his two broken
legs, but his contract runs out next summer and The
Mail reports that Arsenal are preparing for Sagna
refusing to sign an extension.
Apparently Sagna was unhappy with the deal the
Gunners offered him last season. It was only for
another year, and would have kept the talented
defender on the same £60,000 a week he has been
on since signing his current deal in 2008. It is hardly
surprising that he didn't snap Wenger's hand off with
that offer, especially when we hear that big spending
clubs like Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have
shown their interest in him.
However, I can also understand why Arsenal didn't
throw money at Sagna to make him stay, because his
performances for most of last season did not merit it.
But now they do, so surely it makes sense for Arsenal
to go back with a new offer; for longer and for more
money. If he still wants to leave on a free transfer in
the summer, which would probably guarantee him a
bumper pay-day, there is not a lot we can do.
The sooner the club knows one way or another,
though, the sooner that Wenger and the scouting
network can get working on who to bring in. At 30-
years old, barring injury, Sagna should still be right
at the top of his game for the next few years, and
Arsenal would struggle to replace him, so I think that
we should tryy very hard to keep him at the
Emirates. Do you agree? If not who should we sign?
