Arsenal’s hot form is spreading through the squad.
Sunderland away seemed the game that would trip
Arsenal up after all the good work before the
international break, but thanks to the brilliant work
of Giroud and Ramsey, we continue our good form
into a vital month for Arsenal. The first goal was all
about Özil’s brilliant first touch that allowed the ball
fed into Giroud who calmly finessed it past the
keeper. 0 – 1.
However, after the break, Sunderland were back in it
thanks to a silly challenge by Koscielny that gave
them the penalty. It was easy enough for Gardner. 1
-1. Ramsey had different ideas and scored a lovely
volley off a Jenkinson cross that put us back in the
lead. 1 – 2. Finally, some brilliant passing put
Ramsey through and he scored his second of the
afternoon and sealed Sunderland’s fate. 1 -3.
Player ratings:
Szczesny – 7
Didn’t have much to do but made some fine saves
when called upon.
Jenkinson – 7
A very decent shift by him and an assist
Sagna – 7.5
A very good performance by him at CB but Altidore
did completely overpower him in that ruled out goal.
Koscielny – 6
Was very poor by his standards and gave away such
a silly penalty. Did look lost without Mertesacker’s
guidance.
Gibbs – 7
Was decent going forward but struggled to contain
Johnson at times.
Flamini – 7.5
A very good performance by him and he made sure
that open play chances through the middle were few
and far between.
Ramsey – 8.5 (MOTM)
Just a lovely performance by the Welshman which
was topped off by two brilliant goals.
Walcott – 6
Was poor today considering the positions he got
himself into. He’ll definitely be kicking himself for
missing chances that a player of his level should be
scoring.
Özil – 8
A classy debut by the German and it was as clear as
rain that he was a step above every player on the
pitch.
Wilshere – 7.5
A very good performance from that LW spot. Some
good dribbles and lovely turns. Combined well with
Özil. Could this be his new position at Arsenal?
Maybe.
Giroud – 8.5
He really has stepped his game up and proven many
wrong (including me). He first touch, movement and
finishing have improved significantly from last
season.
Subs – N/A
None of the subs really did anything in the game
when put on and were out of position as well as
happily defending the lead. All in all, it was a very
good game by the Gunners but it certainly wasn’t
easy. It’s amazing to see how well our team is finally
clicking together and I can only imagine how good
we’ll be with the likes of Cazorla and Arteta back in
the team!
