If Giroud is out, should Arsenal use Ramsey as false 9?
As far as strikers are concerned, Arsenal were as
good as standing on one leg, and Wenger really
missed a trick by failing to sign a striker this
summer. There was a lot of time between when
Liverpool rejected our £40M offer for Suarez and
when the window closed. There was probably
sufficient time to have moved quickly to an “easier”
target, say, Benteke or Martinez but Wenger waited,
and waited, until it was too late.
Not bidding for Benteke or Demba Ba, soon after the
Suarez bid was rejected seemed to indicate that
Wenger would go in with a THIRD offer for Suarez,
but John W Henry’s war cries seemed to have
completely scared Wenger away. One possibility,
which certainly doesn’t seem beyond Wenger, is to
make a panic signing of any of the out-of-contract
strikers that are hanging around looking for clubs,
such as Ciprian Marica, but that will only infuriate
Arsenal Fans.
Any way, there is some good news with regards to
Podolski, with the Mirror reporting that the striker
should be fit enough to play a role in the first UCL
home game against Napoli. However, it will not be
soon enough for the important game against
Marseille and Wenger will have to improvise.
Akpom is clearly not ready for such a step up, and
Bendtner didn’t even make the bench today. The
most likely replacement for Giroud, if he fails to
shake off his injury, is Walcott, but that would
probably mean both Miyaichi and Gnabry have to
start, which doesn’t feel right.
One option for Wenger, and especially since we have
so many midfield players, is to use a False 9 against
Marseille, and maybe even against Stoke City. We’ve
seen midfield players like Fabregas and Arshavin
play as strikers and it
is certainly something for Wenger to consider in this
crisis moment.
Out of all our midfielders, it’s the Jack of all trades –
ah no, not that Jack – Ramsey, that will be most
suited for this role. He has shown he is able to put
the ball in the back of the net and is easily our most
adaptable player. Best of all, he is very good
positionally so we are unlikely to see him dropping
too deep into midfield if he were to be assigned that
role. The other players whom I feel could do very well
are Cazorla and Oxlade-Chamberlain, but sadly,
both players are injured.
If Giroud doesn’t make it against Marseille whom
would you like to see play up front for Arsenal? If we
were to use the False 9, whom would you like to see
play that role?
Gnabry Ramsey Walcott
Wilshere Ozil Flamini
Gibbs Mertesacker Koscielny Sagna
Szczesny
