Why staying in league cup could be MASSIVE for Arsenal

A lot of arsenal fans were actually fine with Arsenal dropping out of the league cup in the first round against W.B.A. I believe that’s mainly because we really looked tired against Stoke and some players needed a rest, but there’s more to this win than just good experience for the youngsters. First of all, some players needed a game and they got one. Monreal, Arteta, Vermaelen and even Bendtner added some good game time to their names. A lot of youngsters got some nice game time too and the finishing from Eisfeld was pretty neat! Back to the point, dropping out of the league cup in our first game in it is not the end of the world, but morale is based on a winning mentality and maintaining it keeps everyone happy. Mentality in football changes very quickly and two bad results in a row put you in a crisis (or at least the media does). Even if it’s the least prestigious cup, it’s still a cup and Mesut Ozil didn’t come to Arsenal to count the years without a trophy. In the end we are rewarded with a Chelsea game at home which is a good draw for me. For the first time in some years, Arsenal has a squad good enough to beat Chelsea on their best day and beating your rivals in any sort of game hurts them. Mourinho said some time ago that Wenger needs to explain to Arsenal fans why we are so many years without a trophy (a fair enough point though), but if I was Wenger, boy would I love a chance to dump Chelsea out of a tournament and make him eat his words! Overall we are just 5 games into the Premier League season, so it’s far too early to draw conclusions and for me it was too early to be dropping out of a tournament, even if it is the league cup. It’s also too early to be writing teams off or giving them the title yet when 3 of the top 4 clubs have new managers and 2 of them have half of a new squad added and are yet to settle in. Fact remains though that our form from the last 10 games of last season till now is nothing short of sensational and I hope it goes like this all the way till May!
