We all know who was the star of the show for Arsenal
last night against Napoli. Take that for a finish. As
calm as you like. Now I know there will be a lot of
people putting heaps of praise on Ozil, but I'm just
going to say that's what £42 million gets you in
return of talent. Maybe Arsene Wenger will start
liking those big money signings and dig deeper in his
pockets!
Now I'm going to point out to some of the unsung
heroes that do a hell of a job that goes a little
unnoticed. Let's leave behind the six goals Olivier
Giroud scored this season so far to look at some other
things in his game. A striker is so much more than
just putting the ball in the net, at least it is now the
days of the `goal hanger` are over.
Arsenal's number 12 wins a lot of first balls thanks to
his excellent heading abilities and his good strength
and physical stature. Notice how almost every ball
kicked from the keeper is won by Giroud. It may not
seem too much but that really puts the opposition
under pressure and it often gives you the chance not
to have to worry about trying to win the ball back.
Smells like team spirit. Olivier was often accused of
being clumsy with his feet but he really sets up a lot
of team play and the midfielders aren't afraid to pass
the ball with him in build up play! His passing for
Ramsey and Ozil yesterday was just another example
of his excellent link up with his team mates!
But what I like most about his game is his positive
attitude. He is always looking to get the first ball,
always looks to go into the box. If you look at his
gestures he often points to the goal when the ball is
on the wings. He's like 'put it in there and I will
score'. He just loves getting into the game and his
attitude is one I'd like to see from everyone!
Finally you have to give it a shout to his defensive
help. Thanks to his great heading and strength he is
a major help in set pieces and his determination to
press the opponents and get to the ball is really
helpful. It is still far too early in the season to be
drawing conclusions but with the form we are in,
you'd be expecting us to win the game at WBA on
the weekend. It was nice to see Rosicky back and
take in mind we are still missing Podolski, Cazorla
and Walcott!
Exciting times to be an Arsenal fan!
