Because of Arsenal's injury list and the fact that the
Gunners are in the strongest Champions League
group by far, a win tomorrow against the Italian
league leaders Napoli would be an absolutely
fantastic result. It would also put Arsenal firmly in
charge of the group, but it is not going to be easy.
Arsene Wenger and his players have already come up
against Napoli this year, in the Emirates cup. We
drew that one, of course, and although Arsenal have
improved greatly since then, so have Napoli. Wenger
believes he has learned som3e lessons from that
game, as he explained to Arsenal.com, and he has
warned his players about the counter attacking
potential, especially from young Lorenzo Insigne.
He said, "He is very mobile. He is not tall but quick
and very good in the transition from defence to
attack.
"He is a good dribbler as well and is an intelligent
mover. That makes him an interesting prospect.
"That's what struck me as well in the Emirates Cup –
when they win the ball they come out very quickly
with Callejon, Hamsik, Insigne and Higuain, [who]
come out like bombs all the time they win the ball.
The transition from our side from offence to defence
will have to be very quick."
That suggests to me that Flamini will get the nod
ahead of Arteta, for his reading of danger and
tackling ability, but the whole team will have to be on
their guard and fully focused. The fact that Napoli
surprised many by beating last season's beaten
finalists Borussia Dortmund in the last round, will
mean that we do not take anything for granted.
We are on a pretty good run ourselves, of course, and
Benitez will have his team ready for a tough game.
He will expect to have to defend and hit us on the
break, so getting the first goal could be crucial for
Arsenal.
