The weekend game that put Arsenal clear at the top
of the table also marked a special day for Arsene
Wenger. It was 17 years to the day since he began
his long and successful association with the Gunners,
and you would think that it was something that our
north London rivals Tottenham would not even want
to think about, as Le Prof has never finished below
them, but famous spuds fan and former chairman
Alan Sugar has proclaimed Wenger as the best in the
league.
He tweeted, "Arsenal 2 up top of the PL how many
times do I have to say it. Wenger best manager in the
PL. Double FACT!"
I am certainly not going to argue with him, he might
fire me, but Wenger himself has played down the
comments in his typically understated way, shifting
the spotlight away from himself. He also wants the
players to get the recognition for this awesome run
we are on, just as he tries to take the blame away
from them when we are being slated by all and
sundry, and that is a big part of what makes him
such a good and well respected manager.
Wenger said, "That's a nice compliment, but I feel
every manager is good in the Premier League.
"There are 20 of us competing. You cannot measure
really how good a manager is. You just try to do well
in your job. But I accept the compliment."
Wenger is sure to win Manager of the Month for
September, and if he can keep Arsenal at the top of
the table at the end of the season, he will surely have
proved Alan Sugar right.
