Aaron Ramsey has been a revelation for Arsenal since
the latter part of last season, and the young
Welshman was a huge part of the Gunners late surge
which saw them overhaul north London rivals
Tottenham for the final Champions League spot.
Ramsey's performances then were not getting a
huge amount of attention, but by adding goals to his
game, the midfielder has become the talk of the
town, so just how good is he?
Well he is the top scoring midfielder. In fact, until
Sturridge bundled the ball into the net with his arm
on Sunday, Ramsey was joint top Premier League
scorer, with Giroud, Benteke, Toure and Sturridge. So
Rambo and Toure are mixing it with the strikers who
you would expect to score more and holding their
own. But when you add in cup games and goals, our
star man is the clear winner, with eight goals.
Just looking at goals, however, is only part of
Ramsey's ability. He is not even the furthest forward
player in the Arsenal midfield. His responsibility is all
over the pitch, linking defence with attack, so how
well does he do in these other areas and have his
goals put a false gloss on his performances? The
short answer is no.
In a report compiled by eplindex.com, Ramsey is
compared to the other three top midfielders so far
this season; Toure, Paulinho and Hazard. In a few
areas, passing in the final third, the Man City man
edges it over Rambo, but only just. When it comes to
the tackling and defensive part, Ramsey wins in most
departments. The same is true of creativity and
attacking, and the conclusion is clearly that he is the
most complete and effective midfielder so far this
season. He has also scored more goals than any other
player at an English club, making the conclusion
unavoidable. Ramsey is the best player in England at
the minute. FACT!
