Aaron Ramsey's goalscoring this season has been
nothing short of incredible. The Arsenal midfielder is
showing no signs of slowing down, either, having
scored again last night to snatch a point for Wales
against runaway group leaders and talent filled
Belgium. And it was not any old goal, it was a beauty.
Ramsey had another great goal, but the way he was
involved at the start of the move and then bust a gut
to offer an overlap to Bellamy was typical of his play
this season. Then to nutmeg Atletico Madrid keeper
Courtois from the narrowest of angles would have
made Lionel Messi proud. Simply brilliant!
Arsene Wenger had previously said that Ramsey
would be a good scorer once he got going, but to be
honest, there was not much indication of it. Even
those of us who supported Ramsey and appreciated
what he was doing last season didn't expect
anything like this, because the change is miraculous.
This season, Ramsey has scored eight club goals,
which is more than he got in the previous three years
put together. And this season is not even one fifth of
the way through. Even before his horrendous injury,
when he was making a name for himself with Cardiff
and then Arsenal, Ramsey's best return was four
goals from 29 games. Wenger must have X-ray vision
or a functioning crystal ball.
It is a similar story for his national team, where three
of his eight goals have come in the last six months.
His performances for Wales have been so good that
he has been included in a Mirror report that lists the
eleven best players who will not be going to the
World Cup next summer. Never mind the World Cup,
Aaron, just make sure you win a trophy with Arsenal
this season.
