Will Arsenal’s last minute policy pay off or biteus in the Arse?

Arsenal’s transfer policy is not working and everybody knows it by Simaoatb Arsenal have a policy of not spending big like every other club around us but instead searching for specific targets and waiting until the very end of the transfer window. The problem with this is that everybody knows we have lots of unspent money so they drive their prices up massively knowing we are desperate. It makes sense now. We are priced out of moves because we have the most money. Look at Tottenham for example. They don’t want to sell Gareth Bale to Real Madrid until they have his replacement(s) signed because they understand that prices go up all of a sudden when you have money and when the clock is still ticking. How do the Arsenal transfer team not know that the policy of “financial safety” is actually having the opposite effect? We cannot get a player at a bargain price because every other club knows how to play us. We are the rich kid in the corner that nobody will talk to. The difference is that they won’t sell players to us at a normal price. I do not see the benefit of leaving all of your transfer business until there is less than a week left. It doesn’t help the buying team or the selling team as the sellers have to find a replacement which causes them to be cagey when dealing with the buyer and drives prices up. On the other hand, there was a piece by John Cross in The Mirror yesterday suggesting that there could well be a late fire sale by clubs desperate to balance the books and there could be some real quality players available on the cheap, in which case Arsenal are perfectly poised to take advantage, but it is one hell of a risk for us to be taking. Another negative point of buying late is that the new players don’t have time to blend in with the rest of the squad before the new season. Players who were signed for the 1st July will speak fluent English and know the squad like their family. Players signed on the 2nd September won’t have that until November. Time is running out and prices are going up. What are we doing here? Again!!!!
