Latest Arsenal transfer disappointment isKondogbia….Who’s left?

Arsenal’s summer spending spree hasn’t gone to plan at all for Arsene Wenger and his transfer team. Whichever way you see it, being the club lying to the fans in a plot to continue to sell season tickets and merchandise, or whether Arsenal have genuinely tried but been extremely unlucky, at the end of the day we still find ourselves under a week away from the closure of the summer transfer window with just one addition to our name. It’s believed that, although it was Wenger’s intention to strengthen almost every aspect of the positions on the pitch, it was the central defensive midfield position that seemed to be the main priority. Arsenal haven’t had a true CDM since the glory days and you could argue our last predominant player for that position was Mathieu Flamini, who as I’m sure you are all aware, is back training with the club. That was around five years ago and we still haven’t replaced the Frenchman. A few days ago it might have seemed as if we were going to finally find a replacement for Flamini, in Flamini himself after reports broke out Wenger was considering offering the 29 year old a return to the club. However no such thing has happened as of yet and so currently we are still on the lookout for a defensive midfielder. We were also close to signing the Bayern Munich player Luis Gustavo, who instead decided to join German side Wolfsburg. I cannot blame him because although Arsenal posed a greater challenge, Gustavo’s main reason for leaving Bayern was to get regular playing time and we couldn’t promise that at Arsenal. Not to mention he was offered well over £100k a week, something Arsenal would never do. So the latest player on the blocks regarding a DM was Sevilla’s Geoffrey Kondogbia. He’s just 20 years old but hit high levels last season in Spain, proving what a good signing he was. A year on from when he joined the Spanish club, he looks to be on his way out again however he seemingly won’t be joining Arsenal, despite Wenger’s keen interest. Instead billionaire French club Monaco have stepped in and according to reports are close to signing the French international. Again it’s a disappointment for Arsenal and we can’t keep losing out on our targets! The move for Kondogbia hasn’t been confirmed yet as it’s only in advanced stages supposedly however Arsenal must find their priorities now and get them signed up. Hopefully we start to see some movement tomorrow after tonight’s game!
